Credit by Demonstrated Mastery (CDM)

Beginning with the 2014-2015 school year, Credit by Demonstrated Mastery (CDM) is a new option for obtaining high school course credit for standard level courses (Honors level and Advanced Placement (AP) level courses are excluded) in North Carolina. CDM is the process by which a local school system shall, based upon a body of evidence, award a student credit in a particular high school course without requiring the student to complete classroom instruction.

To earn credit for a high school course and by-pass the seat time requirements, students shall demonstrate mastery for the course through a two-phase process:

Phase I:   A standard examination
-End of Course (EOC) Exam – Level V
-Career and Technical Education (CTE) Post Assessment – 90% or better
-Non-EOC/CTE Assessment – 90% or better (effective 2016-17 school year)

Phase II:  An artifact
-A project that demonstrates the student’s deep understanding of the content standards
-Artifacts of any type may be assigned – ranging from three-dimensional to paper-based to electronic to oral interviews.

Eighth grade students wishing to participate should submit materials to your principal no later than Friday, February 1, 2019.

NE Info @ May 12, 2020 This week core teachers are working on state-required transition plans individualized by student and so contacts to your home may be fewer in number. As you work remotely, if you need assistance, do not hesitate to contact your teachers by email and they will be back in touch with you as quickly as possible. When you send email messages, if you do that from the school website the Message Tracker system sends an email back to the original sender that must be verified before the message is sent to the school system employee. If you missed the last instructional packet pick up please arrange to stop by the school between 10 am and 1 pm this week to pick up the envelope. Some envelopes contain important updates about vaccinations and your child’s readiness for the next school year. If your child had remaining money in a lunch account, the funds will remain in the lunch account. For eighth graders moving to high school, the money will move to the high school account. As a reminder, due to recent legislation we expect the school year to begin earlier, with a new start date on August 17th. While most of our students have been completing work online and submitting work electronically you may drop off completed paper packets at the school on Thursday, May 21st. Please also mark your calendar for Thursday, June 4th as we will be collecting from you school property such as chrome books, text books, and library books. We ask that all chrome books be charged fully for drop off day. Again, we will be collecting school property on Thursday, June 4th. The school system has designated Tuesday, June 9th as the final remote learning date. Thank you for the tremendous support during “Appreciation Week” last week!
