November 18, 2025, twenty-three sixth-grade students from Northeastern Randolph Middle School attended a field trip to Morrow Mountain State Park located in Albemarle, North Carolina. The group was led by a Park Educator named Alden and chaperoned by three staff members from the school.
At the beginning of the tour, students visited a museum that included using a microscope to view various plants, such as leaves, and animal life, such as turtle shells. The students were able to hike over 1 mile while looking at different scenery in the park. The tour guide was able to point out different natural elements in the environment. Additionally, the park educator discussed various jobs and duties offered at the state park. The types of jobs included park ranger, firefighter, scientist, sawyer, lifeguard, cashier, and even a coffee barista from their concession area!
At the end of the tour, the students identified different types of birds and fish while reviewing photographs, as well as reviewing other types of wildlife artifacts, such as antlers and models of other wildlife.
