Several current and former Randolph County School System (RCSS) students and educators showcased their musical talents over the weekend as members of the Greensboro Concert Band, performing in a concert held Saturday, April 18 at Dana Auditorium in Greensboro. The event highlighted not only the musical excellence within the RCSS community, but also the way local educators and students continue to contribute to the broader arts culture across the Triad region. Among the performers was Grant Powers, a proud RCSS alumnus currently completing his sophomore year at the UNC Greensboro School of Music, where he is majoring in Music Performance. He was joined by Jonah Key, a current sophomore at Providence Grove High School, along with several dedicated music educators from across the district. Representing RCSS were band directors and music educators Mr. Beck (Providence Grove High School), Throop Smith (Wheatmore High School), and Mrs. Miranda Walker (Lexington City Elementary School), as well as Mr. Walker, Band Director at Northeastern Randolph Middle School. Together, they performed alongside fellow musicians, demonstrating the strong connection between RCSS music programs and the wider regional arts community. The concert also featured a special moment of connection between generations of musicians, as educators and students performed side by side, highlighting the continuity of musical excellence being cultivated in RCSS classrooms and beyond. These performances reflect the dedication of RCSS music educators and students who not only develop their talents within school programs, but also continue to share their passion and skills with audiences throughout the Triad.

Students across the Randolph County School System (RCSS) showcased their skills, leadership, and agricultural knowledge at the West Central FFA Regional Rally on April 15, 2026—earning top honors and multiple opportunities to advance to the state level. Southwestern Randolph High School led the way with an impressive showing across several events. The Ag Mechanics and Tool teams both earned 2nd place in the region, while Carson Jordan was named the #1 individual in the region for Tools. In horticulture, the Introduction to Horticulture team placed 3rd, with Kyla Farmer earning #1 individual honors. Alyssa Hampton delivered a standout performance, winning 1st place in Extemporaneous Public Speaking, placing in the Top 3 in the state for Service Learning Proficiency, and being elected Vice President of the West Central Region FFA Officer Team. Additional achievements included 2nd place in Senior Poultry Evaluation, 2nd place in Gator Wars, and a 3rd place finish in Dairy Handler by Katelyn Haltom. Providence Grove High School also celebrated strong results. The Senior Dairy Evaluation team placed 3rd in 2026 after earning 1st in 2025, with Troy Blakely previously recognized as the top individual. The school earned 1st place in Senior Hunter Safety, with Jacob Bowman taking top individual honors, along with 3rd place finishes in Junior Forestry, Land Judging, Senior Horse Evaluation, and Employability Skills (Leah Morton). Northeastern Randolph Middle School earned a 2nd place finish in Junior Hunter Safety, while Trinity High School took home 1st place in Spanish Creed. Eastern Randolph High School added to the district’s success with a 3rd place Dairy Handler finish by Hannah Gilcrest. Thanks to their outstanding performances, many of these top three teams and individuals have qualified to compete at the North Carolina FFA State Convention, which will be held June 23–25, 2026, in Raleigh. These accomplishments highlight the dedication of RCSS students and advisors, as well as the strength of agricultural education programs across the district.
